Dual Concepts: A Seamless Blend of Work and Home Life

Creating a Modern Workspace Environment

The founder of T.M Design Studio, Cheng Hsuan Huang, has designed a unique space that combines his work and home life. By seamlessly blending the two functions, Huang is able to effortlessly switch between his professional and personal life, allowing for more quality time with his family. This innovative approach to workspace design offers a fresh perspective on the integration of work and life.

The Dual Concepts project was born out of Huang's desire to spend more time with his family while still being able to pursue his passion for design. The space was carefully designed to cater to both the needs of a studio and a home, ensuring that functionality and aesthetics were perfectly balanced.

One of the key strengths of this design is its ability to preserve the history and character of the building while incorporating modern elements. By refurbishing and repurposing the old structure, Huang not only promotes sustainability but also adds value and memories to the space.

In the studio area, the use of pine plywood surfaces, polished concrete floors, and a red brick column pays homage to the building's past, while white square tiles, powder-coated metal window frames, and perforated metals on the walls infuse a modern touch. In the living area, a large glass panel expands the visual space, creating a sense of openness, and the wood herringbone parquet floor adds warmth to the bedroom.

The building's location on a corner allows for ample natural light to flood the space. Huang took advantage of this by expanding the original windows, not only maximizing the amount of light but also giving the building a more contemporary look. The exposed beams on the ceiling, a result of not covering them up due to the room's height, seamlessly blend in with the overall style of the space.

The Dual Concepts project, spanning 96 m2, features an entrance, reception room, office, storage area, master bedroom, locker room, two bathrooms, and a kitchen. The layout was carefully planned to make the most of the building's structure, considering the challenges posed by its age and safety concerns.

This project, which began in March 2016 and concluded in March 2017 in Taichung City, is a testament to the growing trend of multipurpose spaces. Combining different spatial forms helps shorten the distance and time between work and life, preventing the neglect of family due to long working hours. The Dual Concepts project exemplifies this design approach, progressively changing people's living styles and habits.

The Dual Concepts project was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2018 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The project's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics contributes to a better world.

With Dual Concepts, Cheng Hsuan Huang has successfully created a space that harmoniously blends work and home life. This innovative design offers a fresh perspective on the modern workspace environment, showcasing the possibilities of combining functionality, aesthetics, and personal life.
